Nursing

Our Lead Nurse and Practice Placements Facilitator at NGPS, Joanna Vintis, provides support for all those working in nursing teams in general practice in Newcastle. This includes career development advice and mentoring. Joanna spent 12 years as a practice nurse in Northumbria before joining NGPS, and has previously led regional and national projects to encourage student nurse placements, was award-nominated for her work in the recent national Royal College of Nursing (RCN) awards and – working in partnership with Helen Stainsby from NHS England – won the Nursing Times award for Primary Care Nursing for their work supporting student nurses.

Student nurse placements

Joanna is leading a project to develop more student nurse placements within Newcastle, encouraging more newly qualified nurses to consider primary care as a first-choice career destination. Her work is part of the primary care workforce strategy for the city.

Nurses support group

Joanna coordinates a support group so that all members of nursing teams feel supported and part of a wider community, and give them an opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and keep in touch.

Are you a nurse who wants to work with us?

We manage a flexible workforce team, Flexipool, placing clinical and non-clinical staff into GP practices and specialised clinics where there are staffing needs. This includes nurses and HCAs and is a great opportunity to work flexibly and keep up with your skills, and join a friendly team. For more information see our Flexipool page.

And if you’re a student nurse and wondering about where to work once you’ve qualified, or want some experience working in primary care, contact Joanna on joanna.vintis@nhs.net.
