Resources for practices

Extended access and urgent access to primary care

In addition to services at Ponteland Road, Westgate Road and the ED at the RVI, additional GP resources are being provided at Regent Point to support telephone triage. You can read details of the urgent and extended access service in the document below:

Cold face to face gp services

Additional face to face appointments are available to practices using the GP within the UTCs at Ponteland Road and Westgate Road. This GP also provides appointments to walk-ins and patients redirected from 111 and ED. Appointments are available between 0800 – 2200 hrs seven days a week and are released in batches throughout the day, depending upon demand and uptake. Please note: children under 12 can be referred to the service, however, they must have had a clinical triage beforehand, as with all face to face appointments.

Please read the cold services face to face referral criteria before referring any patients.

Telephone Triage Services

Two GPs are providing an additional 80 telephone triage appointments to practices for patients who do not require a face to face appointment. These appointments are provided between 0800 – 2200 hrs. Triage slots will be released in batches throughout the day depending upon demand and uptake. Please read the telephone triage referral criteria before referring any patients.

Hot Services – Home Visiting GP

The Home Visiting service will continue to be provided by two GPs conducting home and care home visits, operating out of the Molineux Street building. This service is for all non-ambulant “hot” patients, including those in wheelchairs, meeting the referral criteria below. The service will be an in-hours only service, with visits available between 1000 hrs and 1800 hrs (the final visit time will be 1700 hrs) on a Monday to Friday. Please read the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) below before referring any patients.

Hot Site has reopened

Our Covid Hot Site at Elswick Family Practice has re-opened to provide face to face appointments for ambulant “hot” patients. The service is in-hours only, with appointments available between 0900 hrs and 1800 hrs (final appointment time 1730 hrs), Monday to Friday. GPs will be able to book patients directly onto the Hot Site ledger. PLEASE NOTE: There is no ability to conduct Covid tests at the hot site and this service is ONLY for GP practices to book patients to, it is not a walk-in service for the public.
