rebecca haynes appointed as new chief executive of ngps

We are very pleased to announce that we have appointed Rebecca Haynes as the new Chief Executive of Newcastle GP Services; she will start in the role on 1 October 2022.

Rebecca has been our Chief Operating Officer for more than two years and is replacing Christian Townend RRC who is retiring this year after 15 years in the NHS and more than 30 years as a manager and clinician in military health care provision.

Rebecca has been at the forefront of innovation and growth at NGPS, across a number of projects and programmes. She was instrumental in supporting the formation of Primary Care Networks in Newcastle, was the architect of the primary care Covid vaccine plan for the city and is now working to implement a new model for local care supporting both the community, urgent access and general practice.

Rebecca’s appointment follows other changes to governance at NGPS as the organisation continues to evolve and adapt to the changing requirements of the healthcare system in the city, primarily the appointment of a new board of directors in December 2021.

Dr Natalie Crowe, Chair of NGPS, said:

“I am absolutely delighted that Rebecca will be taking on the role of CEO at NGPS. Having worked closely with her over the past couple of years I know what a tremendous asset she will be for NGPS and I am excited about what we will be able to achieve for General Practice in Newcastle with her at the helm of our Federation.”
